Bifrost Saga
From the dedication of the USS Bifrost- President Cynthia Nogales’s July 4th, 2338

“Why spend the money?” some have asked.
“We still have so much to do on Earth.” others have said.
The 21st century brought us to the brink of extinction. While our technology held the promise of eliminating disease, and poverty. Greed, overpopulation and religious zealotry nearly destroyed us. By the mid-21st century, we were on the brink of utter destruction. If not for the Great Culling, humanity would not have survived. As all of us know, it almost didn’t…….
….. To ensure the survival of the human race, is why we do this. To that end, I dedicate the USS Bifrost to a mission of life and of hope. May she be a bridge to the stars for all of humanity.
Air That We Breath
Generations of politicians and the very wealthy have used misinformation campaigns to drown out scientists warnings about everything from cigarette smoking to CO2 emissions, and have left the population of the world jaded and skeptical of science.
2021: In all the clamor over climate change and rising sea levels, no one is listening to the growing warnings from those studying Biological Oceanography. Ocean temperatures are also affecting the world’s phytoplankton they warn, and that affects 75% of Earth’s oxygen generation.
2041: The level of atmospheric oxygen is falling world wide at an alarming and accelerating rate. Leading scientists warn that earths Oxygen levels will drop below the ability to sustain mammalian life in less than two centuries, but are ridiculed as quacks by rightwing media and conspiracy theorists.
The truth is much worse than the public warnings. Once again, the rich and powerful are manipulating the public into quiescence, as they scheme to forestall a panic, till they can prepare for themselves safe harbors in the coming global collapse.
2204: Jared Conner’s life is good. As a Conner he is respected, and privileged, and unlike his older brothers, he wont be required to stay home and lead the clan. He is free to pursue his dreams of exploration and adventure.
At least that was the plan.
The United American States
Quantum mechanics teaches us that there are parallel universes out there. Some theories claim that every time a decision is made, a new universe springs from the event, whether it be you turn left at the park or right, two different choices, two different universes.
So then we have to ask, what if?….. and for good or ill, all that entails.
